ALDD - Cooking with Confidence

Level X

Course Overview

Part Time
Certificate

This course will follow a set programme of recreational and vocational activities to encourage, promote and develop your personal skills, confidence and physical abilities.

These informal learning opportunities will be delivered in a relaxed friendly environment by tutors empathetic to ALDD needs.

We want you to enjoy the pleasures of cooking your own food.  You will learn basic nutritional values of different foods and understand how to make a healthy meal.  We’ll explain safe kitchen practices which will include preparation and storing of food, and preventing accidents when using kitchen equipment.  This is an ideal course to develop skills needed for independent living.

Every week you will need to bring:

  • Apron – and one for your carer too
  • Large lidded container – to take home the dishes you have prepared
  • A hand band (for those with long hair)
  • Sensible non-slip flat footwear covering your toes
  • A contribution towards the cost of ingredients (approximately £2 weekly)

Your tutor will regularly review your activities and offer you support and guidance.  You will be encouraged to identify small, realistic and achievable goals to work towards throughout the course and will keep a learning log to monitor you progress and achievement within the group.  Lessons will involve recap to consolidate learning.

Learners are expected to attend regularly i.e. at least 80% of the course.

Please make sure you arrive on time for the start of the class.  It can be very disrupting for the class when people arrive late.

  • This course is aimed at adults (age 19 or at the start of the academic year) with mild physical or learning disabilities. Care support is not available through the college but learners may be supported by their own carers, who will be expected to participate in the activities. Enrolment enquiries for Adult LDD courses should be referred to Gloucestershire College Community Administration on 01594 838440.

  • Your tutor will be able to advise you of any follow on or suitable alternatively funded courses.
