This higher apprenticeship is for those already in or seeking a career in electrical and electronic engineering, covering the use of microprocessors, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), power systems and control. Much of the learning will focus around live projects briefs, real case studies and work-related scenarios.
The delivery mode can be completed through day release, evening delivery or block release. A key feature of this course is the support that it receives from local and regional employers.
The competence and knowledge qualifications in this framework contribute to general competence as measured in the Engineering Council's UK specification and is endorsed by the lET (Institute of Engineering and Technology)
Successful completion of the course may allow progression onto HND Level 5 and several related BSc or BEng degree courses.

In order to start on this programme you must be employed. Examples of progression routes into this apprenticeship include: • A levels in relevant Science or Technology subjects • BTEC Diploma Level 3 Engineering with distinction including Further Maths • Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSEs grade 4 and above (A-C) in Maths and English All applicants are assessed at interview to ensure correct levels of study. Prior qualifications or experience in a relevant job will be taken into consideration.
Apprentices can progress onto the following qualifications: • BEng (Hons) in Electronic and Computer Systewm Engineering • BSc/BEng (Hons) in Engineering or systems Engineering Example job roles • Systems Engineer • Test Engineer • Avionics, Hardware/Software Engineer • Quality Engineer
