Mathematics for Numeracy Teaching

Level 3

Course Overview

Part Time
Certificate

This course is part of a programme devised by City & Guilds to enable candidates who wish to progress to subject specific literacy and ESOL teacher education programmes.

The qualifications allow candidates to learn, develop and practise their personal skills in English or maths to facilitate embedding of literacy in their subject specialisms.

The qualifications were developed to cover the criteria for entry English (literacy and ESOL) teacher training in the lifelong learning sector.

There are a number of options available at GC to help you pay for your course fees:

  • Setting up a Direct Debit: You’ll be asked for a 20% deposit when you enrol and this can be paid in cash, or by debit or credit card. Course fees must be paid in full by the end of your course so the monthly instalments would be adjusted accordingly e.g. for a one year course you would make 8 payments
  • Advanced Learner Loan: Contact Student Services to find out more and whether this course is eligible
  • Support for those that are unemployed and in receipt of benefits: Contact Student Services to find out if this course is eligible for funding and whether you are eligible
  • Candidates should already hold a level 2 qualification in an English specialism in order to complete the qualification satisfactorily. Candidates without evidence of formal qualifications must demonstrate adequate prior knowledge and experience to ensure they have the potential to gain the qualification. Please continue with your application through this website. You will be given the relevant documents to enrol with Student Services before the first night of the course.

  • The qualification allows you to progress on to a range of further teaching qualifications; your tutor will advise details.

Student Stories

Steven Fisher

“I started by doing an apprenticeship through GC in motor vehicle. I then went on as a technician and was supported by GC to become a lecturer at the college. “I enjoyed being in a group of like-minded people most at the college, which provided lots of conversations about best teaching practices. I learnt a lot and felt very supported. “The course has enabled me to teach in a modern day classroom and have been given a great learning environment. After my course has finished I want to look into management courses so I can progress on to the next level of my career.”
