This qualification will be of interest to you if you are working in a residential or nursing home, domiciliary support, supported living within the Health and Social Care industry in a supervisory role. There are three pathways available: Generic, Dementia and learning Disabilities. The qualification will be delivered in the workplace to demonstrate competence and knowledge to achieve the Diploma.

Qualification Structure: To achieve the full qualification you will need to achieve 58 credits from a combination of mandatory and optional units. Mandatory Units: • Induction to communication in health and social care • Introduction to personal development in health and social care • Introduction to equality and inclusion in health and social care • Introduction to duty of care in health and social care • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care • The role of the health and social care worker • Implement person-centred approaches in health and social care • Contribute to health and safety in health and social care • Handle information in health and social care setting Selection of Optional Units: • The principles of infection prevention and control • Causes and spread of infection • Move and position individuals in accordance to their plan of care • Facilitate person-centred assessment planning and review • Support individuals to live at home • Support individuals to access and use services and facilities • Provide support and manage discomfort • Support individuals with specific communication needs • Support individuals through a period of change • Support use of medication in social-care setting • Support individuals at the end of life Benefits of gaining this qualification: • Obtain a recognised qualification • Up to date skills and knowledge • Proven motivation to succeed within the industry/sector • Increased progression opportunity within the industry This qualification will take a minimum of 6 - 12 months to complete, although depending upon the individual this may be completed within a shorter timescale.   • No formal entry criteria but must be able to achieve a Level 3 qualifcation and must be in a supervisory role All applicants are assessed at interview to ensure correct level of study. Prior qualifications or experiences in a relevant job will be taken into consideration.

  • Progression onto a Level 5 or above qualification.
