The Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Supervision of Food & Beverage Services allows students to gain the skills and techniques required to supervise a team, manage hospitality events and deliver a high level of service to guests and customers. 

The subject areas that will be covered as part of this qualification include:
• Supervisory skills including -
team leadership and development
understanding business operations: types of hospitality businesses and finance
supervising different types of food and beverage service
supervising the restaurant reception

• Planning and delivering hospitality events

• Supervising the beverage service including -
Service of beer, wines and spirits
Serving cocktails
Barista service
Legislation and regulations that affect you and your team

• Gastronomy and the dining experience including -
What is gastronomy?
What influences peoples choices of food and drink?
Specialist table service techniques
Beverage and food matching
Current trends in eating and drinking

• Health & safety and food safety including -
Legislation that impacts on you and your team
Practices and procedures that will protect the business, you, your team and customers
How to deal with customer requirements such as those with special dietary requirements or access requirements?
Safe storage, display and service of food and beverages

This is a full time course where students will attend a combination of practical and theory sessions to build up skills and knowledge over a one year duration ending with a final examination.

You will gain industry experience by working and developing your skills as a supervisor in our commercially operated Restaurant Number One, and will also be involved in overseeing the running of catering events.

The course also includes trips and visits to local and national organisations, visits from industry experts and undertaking relevant work experience.

 

  • A minimum of four GCSEs at grades A*-C or 4 and above, including English or maths. A level 2 qualification in the relevant subject must be completed before progressing on to Level 3 programme. The hospitality industry has a shortage of new talent wanting to progress into supervisory or managerial roles

  • University or Higher Education (Hospitality Management, Event Management) Employment as a supervisor, trainee supervisor or manager

You will gain relevant industry experience by working at GC’s commercial restaurants, which include The View Restaurant at our Forest of Dean Campus, and Number One Restaurant at our Cheltenham Campus.

You’ll also get plenty of real-world experience attending and running events around the county, which may include large functions and corporate events.
