Dressmaking for Beginners

For the first six weeks, you will learn to use the college sewing machine to make some small projects that will build your confidence. These skills will include a drawstring bag, zippered pouch and a messenger style bag.

Once you have built confidence on these smaller projects, you will make a stylish tunic type garment using pattern pieces.

On the course, you will be introduced to a wide variety of topics within the wider world of sewing, and some of the opportunities locally to explore your interest in sewing.

This course is aimed at absolute beginners. No experience necessary at all!

You will need to bring:

A basic sewing kit, which could include

Thread
Fabric scissors
Tailors chalk/fabric marker
Pins
Tape measure
Hand Sewing needles
You will also need to provide your own fabric for your projects. Your tutor will advise you what you will need during your first sessions. For week 1 you will need 1 metre of cotton fabric.

Our recreational courses are aimed at those aged 19 (as at 31st August 2019) or above.
