Children and Young People’s Workforce
This apprenticeship framework provides a great opportunity to combine learning with the practical experience of working with children, usually within a nursery or day care centre. Intended to guide and assess development of knowledge and skills relating to early learning, childcare, social care, learning development and the support services workforces, this qualification confirms competence in these areas, and serves as the required qualification for all new practitioners for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector.

Overview |
Understand child and young person development |
This unit provides knowledge and understanding of how children and young people from birth to 19 years develop, including underpinning theoretical perspectives. It also includes actions taken when differences in development are identified and the potential effects of transitions on children and young people’s development. |
Promote child and young person development |
This unit provides a basis of knowledge, understanding and the competence required to promote children and young people’s development and positive behaviour. It also includes how to support children and young people through transitions in their lives. |
Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people |
This unit covers the understanding, knowledge and competences required to support the safeguarding of children and young people. |
Support children and young people’s health and safety |
This unit provides and knowledge, understanding and skills required to support children and young people’s health and safety. It requires a demonstration of competence in recognising hazards and undertaking risk assessments in the work setting. |
Develop positive relationships with children, young people and others Involved in their care |
This unit aims to enable learners to understand and practise the skills required to develop positive relationships with children, young people and carers. |
Work together for the benefit of children and young people |
This unit aims to enable the learner to understand the importance of multi-agency and integrated working and to develop the skills required for effective communication for professional purpose. It includes and assesses competence in information sharing between those involved in the work with children and young people. |
GCSE grades A-C or 9-4 in Maths and English
Upon completion, you may progress on to Higher Education for example Diploma or Degree in Nursing or Midwifery.
If you choose to, you may progress into employment in day nurseries, schools and playgroups or as a nanny or childminder.
